UPDATE: The finished piece is the LAST photo, not the first photo. Several people expressed concern after looking at the first photo, thinking it was the finished product.
I just sent something out into the world and I hope the world (or at least the client) likes it. I have butterflies in my stomach over this one, which is weird. It’s been a long time since someone new hired me to make something. New is always nerve-wracking. You want to get it right and there’s no precedent for what the client likes or how they like to work. I’m a big believer in over-delivering and under-promising, but not knowing where the midpoint is this time, I’m not sure how I did.
Anyway, here’s the story of some crocheted coral. It started out like this:

Skeletor-al Coral
I KNOW, so you don’t have to tell me. I gotta start using my camera and not my Blackberry. That’s paper-wrapped floral wire with white pima cotton wrapped around it, too.
I just sent it out with these two cushions–one for the bottom of the box, and one to put on top of the coral to keep it safe on the journey to NYC. Those cushions? Hand-sewn from upholstery fabric I had in the stash.

Yes, I am a crazy person.
The nice folks at Hazel sold me some beautiful paper and ribbon which I used to wrap the box (so I could put the whole thing in another box for shipping. See above re: crazy person):

Pretty, huh?
Oh, and this is what the coral looked like:

Nervous!
