If You Have to Have

…a song stuck in your head, there are worse songs to have.  I mean, come on that this isn’t the best wake-up-and-get-after-it song there is — remove religion from it, if you want, that’s fine, I say.  It’s just a happy-dappy optimistic ditty that I sing to Russell Jenkins and Saul and Eli on the regular.

And, if you want to sing along, here are the lyrics:

Forget your troubles
Come on get happy
You better chase all you cares away
Shout hallelujah
Come on get happy
Get ready for the judgment day

The sun is shining
Come on get happy
The lord is waiting to take your hand
Shout hallelujah
Come on get happy
We’re going to the promised land

We’re heading across the river
Wash your sins away in the tide
It’s all so peaceful on the other side

[Chorus: x2]

The sun is shining
Come on get happy
The lord is waiting to take your hand
Shout hallelujah
Come on get happy
We’re going to the promised land

We’re heading across the river
Wash your sins away in the tide
It’s quiet and peaceful on the other side

[Chorus]

Come on get happy
Chase your cares away
Shout hallelujah
Come on get happy
Get ready for the judgment day

The sun is shining
Come on get happy
The lord is waiting to take your hand
Hallelujah
Come on get happy
We’re going to the promised land

We’re heading across the river
Wash your sins away in the tide
It’s all so peaceful on the other side

Shout hallelujah
Come on get happy
You better chase all your cares away
Shout hallelujah
Come on get happy
Get ready.

Let me reiterate — Lord, God, Allah,Budda, whomever, or no-one, those lines aren’t the important part of the song for me, at least –I just think this is a happy, happy song and it’s all in this line:  The sun is shining, come on, get happy.  I mean, get it — happiness is a slow son-of-a-bitch and can be got.  And, more than that, its purpose is to be got by us!  Every day is a chance to catch it.  So, sing the song that makes you want it today and get after happiness.  I’m chasing that son-of-a-bitch right now!

On another note, who am I with all this positive energy right now?  Part of this is attributable to my having cleaned the house and feeling less hoarder-ish, I think.  (I just put all the yarn and fabric in the closet, actually.)   Another part, I think, is the promise of a long walk this weekend … can’t wait to get out and alone and move my legs, I guess.  I hope you have something to look forward to, too!
