Sometimes Repeats are Warranted

This is for you, Meaghan Smith and your friends and family and, I guess, anyone else who might need some comfort.  I think you’re right that this Little Friday Eve should not be celebrated with our usual cute pet pictures and videos, but should be reflective of what we expect those pictures and videos to do for us.  In our case, they lift us up to get through to the end of the week.  This week, though, maybe the power of cute isn’t enough.

And, though I’ve said this a couple of times on this blog, I think it’s worth repeating:  This picture and these words always pull me up, and maybe they will you and yours, too.

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of ‘disaster,’ I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.”

I didn't love him when I was a kid --I was more a Captain Kangaroo kind of gal. It's only now that I'm grown up (kind of) that I get his wisdom and approach to peace.
